a poem on color (skin)

the absence of light

why do we call anybody who is not white

a person of color?

Isn’t that still perpetuating the belief

that white is

the normal

the dominant,

when in fact

white people

are the minority.

Calling anybody who isn’t white

a person of color

suggests that its

us vs. them

white vs. people of color.

why must anybody be separate,

categorized,

marginalized into a box.

it is time we start to recognize

that we are all

one.

we need to come up with a new term.
