afternoon tea – a poem

afternoon tea at 11 am on a sunday in scotland

afternooon tea at 11 am on a sunday

when the city is still slowly waking up.

Processed with VSCO with g3 preset

warm scones spread with clotted cream

and fresh jam

are mouthwateringly good

paired with a selection of the most

delightfully descriptions

of tea.

“a blend of Indian assam and ceylon orange pekoe black leaf with the blue flower”

or

“jam in a cup! rosehip, apple pieces, strawberry and hibiscus petals. A truly fruity flavor”

I want to know what the blue flower is.

Across from me is an old man from Sweden.

We made conversation as two strangers alone in a restaurant do

and I learned that he spent a month in the Highlands.

There is a colorful array of pens on his table.

I am journaling and writing poetry while he sketches, pots of hot tea beside us.

Our art keeps us company

so we don’t look so alone.
